Cleaning Versus Disinfecting
While these two terms are often used interchangeably, cleaning and disinfecting are not quite the same thing. In general, cleaning has to do with removing dirt, dust, and other debris from a surface and is likely what you picture when you think about cleaning. While this is obviously an important part of the work that cleaning technicians do, it is not the complete picture. Disinfection is an equally important component of our services and refers to the neutralization of harmful pathogens that can be a detriment to human health. These pathogens, such as bacteria and viruses, are microscopic particles that are not easily removed. While conventional cleaning can use disinfectants to kill off these pathogens, they are not always effective at fully covering a surface.
What is Electrostatic Disinfection?
Electrostatic disinfection utilizes a stream of charged particles that stick onto harmful pathogens. These charged particles themselves do not provide any physical cleaning. Rather, they seek out, stick to, and coat microscopic pathogens via electrostatic attraction. The opposing charges between the pathogens and the charged particles ensure that pathogens are evenly and uniformly coated. From here, coated particles begin to aggregate and form clumps which can be easily removed mechanically.
How Does Electrostatic Disinfection Remove Pathogens?
While macroscopic mechanical cleaning cleans a surface and removes the majority of dirt, dust, and other debris, it is impossible to wipe away all traces of microscopic particles. These can include bacteria, viruses, fungal spores, or pollen, some of which can be harmful to human health or can trigger allergic reactions. Electrostatic disinfection is able to reach into tiny crevices and other nooks and crannies, where it can seek out such pathogenic particles with great precision. This allows our cleaning technicians to disinfect an area with a much greater degree of efficiency.
